Xiaomi continues to overpopulate any range of phones either within its direct or indirect catalog. It does so with both full versions and Lite models.

The Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite has been the last to join its offer within the Android mid-range, with a price that starts at 299 euros and with the design and screen as great arguments to stand out in the market. In Engadget we have already tried it to tell you all its secrets.

The model that we have analyzed is the one that is currently available in Spain, with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 732G processor , that is, with 4G connectivity .

There is an option to choose it in three different colors and with two possible configurations, varying the internal memory between 64 and 128 GB (price difference of 50 euros between them).

The lightness and little thickness for flag

With a technical sheet that we could associate today with many mid-range terminals with a price of around 300 euros, it is the design where this new Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite begins to add arguments in its favor.

Although from the name we think that this Mi 11 Lite completely recreates the design of its ” complete ” brother , it is not like that. It maintains some guidelines but in truth we are facing a terminal with more differences at the design level than similarities.

Its great selling point is found in how light and thin it is. This makes it very comfortable to use in hand, one of the best we have tested in recent years in this regard.

The low weight and thickness of the Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite together with the glass back make it one of the most comfortable handheld terminals on the market, being also not very slippery

The weight of the Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite is only 157 grams , an excellent figure for a terminal that offers us a screen diagonal of more than 6.5 inches. In addition, its thickness remains below 7 mm, so we liked the set in hand a lot.

And let’s not think that for this low weight and thickness the Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite has no packaging. The material of the back is glass with a good touch and that as a whole, it is not slippery at all.

What the black model that we have tested in Engadget is not spared is the tracks. The other two colors in which we can buy this Mi Lite 11 boast an anti-reflective treatment, something that the elegant black tone does not offer.

It is, as you can see in the video, a whole mirror in which fingerprints and dirt also have a certain facility to get trapped. Although it is true that they are cleaned with the same ease.

The rear has no curvature and the camera module barely protrudes. Xiaomi has achieved a good integration of this element, something that increasingly causes more headaches for manufacturers.

At the level of ports and physical elements, it should be noted that on the upper edge we find an IR port to use the remote control app, while the lower one houses the USB-C port, the tray for nanoSIM cards (Dual SIM or SIM + microSD ) and the main speaker. There is no headphone port but there is an adapter included in the box.

Fingerprint reader on the side

As for the physical controls, both the volume (single) and the power button are housed on the right side, leaving the left of the terminal completely free. Personally I don’t prefer it that way as it costs me more to use the volume control.

The Xiaomi Mi Lite 11 includes the fingerprint reader on the power button, on the side of the phone. And it works very well

On the Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite, the power button acts as a fingerprint reader, which adds to the identification of faces as biometric security elements.

The fingerprint reader is comfortable to use, whether you hold the terminal with your left or right hand. It is fast, reliable and you just have to place your finger on it to be instantly inside the system.

If we prefer, we can change the configuration so that fingerprint recognition takes place not with the touch of the button but with the pressure of the button. We can also use the fingerprint reader to make payments, as a privacy password or to block applications.

AMOLED panel at 90 Hz

We have not found many surprises on the screen of the Xiaomi Mi Lite 11 . Neither positive nor negative. It is a safe value that behaves in accordance with the level and price of the Chinese terminal.

We are facing a 6.55-inch AMOLED panel , 20: 9 aspect ratio and with FullHD + resolution (2400×1080 pixels) in which there are no great boasts in its technical sheet, since it does not come with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, for example . That rate remains at 90 Hz , which provides some extra fluidity to the daily experience with the terminal but does not reach the excellence of the 120 Hz that we already have on the market.

The panel is very well integrated into the front, with hardly any frames and with Gorilla Glass 5 protection . The viewing experience “all screen” is very remarkable, also adding that the notch is “hole” type without too much presence.

The pixel density of 402 dpi is correct and sufficient for a satisfactory viewing experience. The same goes for color reproduction. It is a panel with 10-bit depth and very correct fidelity of the DCI-P3 color gamut when we have it in automatic mode.

The panel offers HDR10 certification thanks to its high brightness of 500 nits (maximum of 800 nits in high brightness mode), something that helps a lot to make the screen display good in very bright outdoors, although without being able to avoid some annoying reflections .

The behavior of the panel, where there is dark and reading mode, we can configure it slightly in the terminal options. We can manually choose the preferred refresh rate (60 or 90 Hz, there is no intelligent mode that adapts it according to the content) as well as the color scheme, but not much more or in all its breadth.

In this panel there are three modes to choose from : automatic, saturated and original color. Only in the automatic can we vary the default color temperature.

Curiously, the always-on screen mode gives us many more options so that it is as we like it. Both for information and for color or type of content.

The multimedia section of this Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite is complete with the sound of its stereo speakers . The main one, located at the bottom of the terminal, is the most prominent and on which all the sound weight of the terminal falls. The enveloping effect is thus reduced.

Regarding the sound quality and general power, the second Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite is more than enough, not having to rush the volume for a complete sound experience, although without great fanfare or depth . Neither does the bass have a solvent or prominent presence.

Base 4G connectivity is maintained

The Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite arrives in Spain for now with the only option of the model equipped with the Snapdragon 732G processor , which places it in the mid-range but not at the highest level.

The most affordable model of the Mi 11 Lite offers 6 GB of RAM, 64 GB of internal memory and is not a 5G smartphone

This SoC is not going to give us problems at the raw performance level but it does have the characteristic of not offering 5G connectivity . Nor is it a terminal with which we can connect and take advantage of WiFi 6 networks. But it does include NFC .

The Mi 11 Lite can be purchased only with 6 GB of LPDDR4X RAM , being able to choose between the versions with 64 or 128 GB of internal memory (UFS 2.2).

The performance of the equipment, as we have advanced, does not present hardly any cracks within the scope of consumption and range in which it is framed. The terminal, in use, responds quite fluently and is prepared for even casual gamers who will really enjoy its large screen and sound.

In our usual round of benchmarks , this new Xiaomi terminal looks like this against the competition:

XIAOMI MI LITE 11 REALME 8 PRO XIAOMI REDMI NOTE 10 PRO ONEPLUS NORD
PROCESSOR Snapdragon 732G Snapdragon 720G Snapdragon 732G Snapdragon 765G
RAM 6 GB 8 GB 6 GB 8 GB
GEEKBENCH 565 / 1,807 566 / 1,709 554 / 1,832
3DMARK SLINGSHOT 3,899 3899 4,309
PCMARK WORK 7,356 8,814 8,520 9,194

In operation, the Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite is not a phone that suffers from excessive heating or inconsistencies for it.

Of course, the maturity and optimization of the MIUI 12 layer on Android 11 contributes to this . With several months in the making and this Mi 11 family being so important, Xiaomi has fine-tuned its operation, something to be thankful for and that is instantly appreciated. Perhaps in search of that good experience is why this Mi 11 Lite does not appear among the teams that will soon update to version 12.5 of MIUI .

The current layer offers us just what we expected: its own services and apps mixed as standard with quite a few third-party applications already pre-installed.

We also have a high customization of the behavior of the terminal , with which those users who have already lived in its ecosystem will be very comfortable from the start.
